Someone once said
you can never go home,
and in a sense
it is true.
We cannot return to the past,
to the moments of firsts—
first time being held,
safe and warm
in mama’s soft lap;
first kiss stolen in the darkness
as moths
flung themselves
at the porch light;
…

Love. Many people search and long for this four letter intangible thing. Why is it that human beings spend so much time trying to make someone love them or trying to love someone because they feel that is what they have to do to be loved?
I’ve got news for you. Love is something that is much more than a hand to hold or a heart to have. Love runs deep, it runs so deep that it can mend wounds and fade scars. Love is, in fact, very tangible. It can become something that moves within you like you would have never expected.
But! Not until you learn to love without expecting anything back.
I believe that we should all love in the way that God loves. He loves us when we don’t seem to love Him back. He gives His love willingly to us and expects nothing in return.
Isn’t that amazing?
I’ve spent a long time trying to find love. I don’t think that I will ever find this love I’ve been searching for. I am convinced that love will find me. Just like the love of God finds me at the times I need it most.
I’ve had my heart broken, and for a moment I felt like all the love I gave was wasted, but love can’t ever be wasted if we aren’t getting anything in return anyway…right?
So. All I can do now is let the Lord’s light shine through me during this time and show the world that even though it may look like I lost love, I still have so much more to give. I’m not going to look for it, because I have it with me in my heart already.
God’s love never fails. And with that simple promise, I find peace.
Love is defined as an “intense feeling of affection”.
Take a moment and read this verse.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
-1 Corinthians 13:4-7
I think that sounds so much better than any dictionary could put it. The Lord promises that love is more than an intense feeling of affection—it is patient and kind, it doesn’t get angry and keeps no records of wrongs. It protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres…—but you have to give that kind of love to receive it.
Instead of just living, lets start loving.
September
Their summer romance
over, the lovers
still cling
to each other
the way the green
leaves cling
to their trees
in the strange heat
of September, as if
this time
there will be
no autumn.

Five Life Lessons Learned From Love
By Jean Roy
Our vibrant world
filled with extravagant rainbows
came crashing down on us.
We became two separate souls
with silver lined goodbyes
and burning promises that only leave singe marks
on a love that was supposed to be
unaffected by anything that…
I have spent my whole life planning according to what I think my future looks like. Since I’m trying this new thing with letting go and giving everything to God, I have decided that I need to focus on what is happening now. Not yesterday and not tomorrow—but now.
I came across a quote the other day that said:
“The future is called “perhaps,” which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the only important thing is not to allow that to scare you.”
—Tennessee Williams
I’m sure all of us talk about the future at some point in our lives. It’s ok to dream and to wonder about what tomorrow will look like. We cannot let what tomorrow may or may not bring be the deciding factor of what we do or don’t do today.
How many of you have done something that you didn’t necessarily want to do, but you felt that, for some reason, you needed to?
I definitely have. In fact, I recently did something that I really didn’t want to do and I’m still not quite sure where the heck to go from here. I’m kind of at a standstill, not looking behind or ahead of me. Maybe it really was the right thing, or maybe it wasn’t. Either way, I believe that God has a plan for me and He will guide me.
I used to be scared of perhaps—the future.
It is so undefined and unpredictable.
But I have come to realize that the most important thing is to, in fact, not let all the maybe’s in life scare me, but to embrace them and every possibility to continue to unfold my future.
Don’t be afraid of what tomorrow brings and don’t be afraid to make decisions that will force tomorrow to look much different than today.
